Ok, random political thoughts here. Over the past few months, I’ve read a lot
of Michael Moore and the like and am in agreeement that the Democratic party
(of which I vote) is in disarray, and I have generally lost confidence in
them. They have no direction, and are seemingly in agreement with Republicans
on many issues they shouldn’t be (coporate de-regulation, citizen’s rights,
etc). To quote more, the Dems have become Republican’s in a bad suit. This
was the main focus of Nader’s campaign for the the Presidency, that the
Democrats did not represent the middle and lower class anymore, they were the
same as the GOP. At the time I didn’t buy it, now I agree. I no longer think
Nader stole the election (the rules don’t say there can only be two ‘real’
candidates).

So here I am, ready to vote for Nader if the election were
tomorow, save for one argument. Would Gore be this hawkish in relation to
Iraq? Would Gore have told European allies (and the world for that matter) to
fuck off, by backing out of nuclear and environment international treaties,
and ignoring the UN? I really can’t see that happening. Clinton used the UN
through the Bosnia campaign, and still enjoys popularity in Europe. Bush is
hated and disrespected everywhere but in the US.

Personally, I think Bush is just gambling on a quick war. He’s cutting
taxes and pushing for war, hoping that everything will fall his way; Iraq is
freed, economy recovers, etc. This is likely (the first part anyway) but not
guarenteed. As someone else said “Don’t worry, the war is going to be quick,
Iraq is a small country, about the size of Vietnam. But don’t worry about
that comparison, Vietnam didn’t have Chemical and Biological weapons…oh
wait”. So if this all turns bad, it could go south very quick. And I’m not
even thinking about North Korea, who is openly asking for war and
allready has WMD it wants to use on us. Why aren’t we dealing with them
again?
