argh, the liberal in me is all fired up.
First, great news for Dean getting Gore’s endorsement. It’s sad to see that
the other dems would tear down the only hope for winning just because it isn’t
them. He really has to win this election. A year away and I’m allready ansty.
Second, this whole flu shot bullshit. If you’ve seen Bowling for Columbine,
one of the key points is that fear drives our society into consumption. This
is pretty classic. The companies that make them declare this year to be the
worst year ever, every fucking year. So everyone hops in line and gets it.
Fair enough, no one wants to be sick for a week. But 3 kids die from the flu
(ignoring the fact that the flu kills thouands annually) and the whole country
gets scared out of their gourd. Look
at this immage, they’re out standing outside inline, in the snow for a flu
shot. You’ll get sick from that alone. It reminds me of the kidnapping scare
from a few years back. Kidnappings were at low levels in compared to other
years, but the media decided that was the hot story, so every week was a new
national headline.
Next bitch, movie theatres, who now want to put 20+ minutes of adds in front
of a movie. Like my $7 (+ $7 for the lady, +candy/soda at 500\% markup) isn’t
enough. A movie theatre should have the crappy trivia slide show, 3-4 trailers
for upcoming movies (I let these slide because seeing movies (and by
assosciation preview scenes to entice you) can really only be enjoyed on the
big screen) should be the only things I see before a movie. And don’t get me
started on 90 minute informercial movies (Yes, I’m talking to you Italian
Job. I’m not going to buy a mini, put charlize back on screen).
