Also, I’m planning on seeing the late showing of garden state tonight if
anyone is interested. Give me a ring if so (I’m spending the day in Geneseo).

To me, coming from you, friend is a four letter word (growing up and moving
on redux)
While at work today killing some time I had an interesting thought stream I
thought would turn into a good entry. It’s about who we consider friends, and
what a truly good friend is. I’ve always defined myself as someone who
enjoyed being in the company of good friends as much as anything else in the
world. It’s why I can treat someone I meet 2 weeks ago with the same attitude
as someone I’ve known for 10 years. If I size you up to be someone I like,
you’re in my circle.
And in college, I had a damn tight circle. Me and the Luzerne crew developed
friendships that were almost post-modern ( to steal a phrase from the art
world, and I hope I’m using it correctly). We weren’t learning anything knew,
we were just improving on what was already there. We knew each other,
backwards and forwards, could finish sentences, could shoot a look to any of 7
or 8 people and know what was up. We lived together, socialized together,
worked together, at times 90\% of my awake time was with these people.
And now we grow up, friends that you would see daily become friends you see
weekly, twice weekly, and now quarterly or more. It’s a crazy transformation,
it’s not spite, it’s just we grow up and move out. Time grows, and you grow
apart. Mabry said it best, we won’t be actively growing the friendship, we’ll
just be catching up on events and reminiscing. I’m now at a point where a lot
of the people I socialize with I do so periodically, that level of knowing is
no longer there. The number of people I can confide in (and vice versa) is
much smaller. Is this why people need a significant other? A socially
acceptable (we can’t live with friends until we’re 40) mate and friend that
just knows you exclusively on that day to day basis?
Tonight, on a very special episode of Run with Scissors…
A great day of personal accomplishment and learning for myself. First off, I
pushed myself to run 5.5 miles today (my guess, I’ll drive tomorrow with an
update), a new record by over a mile. It was great, I really had the .whole
body is beat to hell, but in a good way. feeling. So there I am chugging water
and catching my breath in the bathroom 10 minutes after getting home when I
notice the front of my shirt is bloody…that’s right, I’ve developed runners
nips.
You see, when you take a medium weight cotton shirt, soak in in sweat and have
it agitate your chest for about 45 minutes, you tend to rub the skin raw on on
chest, causing bleeding. I had read about this before, but never figured it
would happen to me, oh how wrong I was. I must figure out how to combat this
new malady, but frankly, I’m scared of doing a google search for bloody
nipple.
Notes while watching an NFL pre-season game…
Very busy these days, between Xerox, PeerConnect, Golf and Boozing. It’s a
good time to be Don Jay. We are in the final days of the Luzerne Street
Tavern, a memorable (if hazy) time of my life. I’m damn excited about moving
into the next place, its gonna be classy, like a kat. Pat and Fran threw a
party last Friday at the place, very cool re-connecting with a bunch of people
I hadn’t seen. And I’ve slowly been remembering bits and pieces of the party
all week, good times.
Madden 2005 came out today, I must have it! On a side note, I see the Bills
going 11-5 this year, and being in a good Wild Card race.
Two things you should know reading this. 1) Poker at our place every Wednesday
night, $10 buy in, money to the top three players. No girls allowed. 2) Last
call at the LST party, saturday the 28th (and bonus points to those who will
help us move into our new place that morning).
And finally, White House West

BBQ up, hoes down - Dribbles, Foxies and the Kat round out a Henrietta Triple crown friday night.
There is a 5am on Saturday, why have I not been told? - Woke up early saturday
(2 hours after sleeping off the triple crown), showered and got ready for golf
to realize it was raining hard and went back to sleep till 11.
Lifting heavy stuff is fun - Helped >the Reed’s move out of my new apartment,
now I know all the tricks on how to get my stuff in. New house rocks, as did
the bbq and the driveway trench that will no doubt repel the German assault on
Village Gate (you have to see it to believe it). I followed this by meeting a
new pal at the Toad for drinks.
We are but men, rock! - Sunday rock show of Howie and Matt, opening for a
crappy band. Great sets, but way to short (left before OAR came on).
