Bring out the Rock!

A quick diversion before the running diary, Matt Nathanson brings the rock like a mother fucker. This is the third time I’ve seen him, and he somehow outdid his incredible set from two years ago in Ithaca (and props to B and Banner who know what I’m talking about). Matt has gone from small rock with a hell of a cello player to a guy who can bring an awesome sound from a full band. His small interludes between song and random covers were in full effect, going from Ashley Simpson to Metallica to Journey to Prince like nothing else. I’m seeing him again on Halloween, come on out and see what a good rock show looks like.

Presidential Debates, Episode II: The Vice Wars

Quick update, I’ll be at the matt nathanson concert tomorrow night, but I’ll Tivo the VP debate and do another running diary.

Gregg Williams 2: Electric Boogaloo

God damnit, the Bills are going to give me a heart attack (if you don’t like football, skip this blog until I say otherwise). So for the first time since Rob “footsteps” Johnson wore a Bills uniform, I openly expected us to lose a game by a big margin. The pats own the Bills on a good day, and this isn’t exactly a good Bills team. We have talent, we make some plays, but our Defense isn’t clutch at all and our offense is still sputering. I thought Mularky would be a great fit here, he made Cordell Stewart a Pro Bowler for god’s sake! Cordell Stewart! But he can’t get shit done here. Bledsoe is mediocre (though better then last year), Henry slips in the backfield, our line sucks, and he has MacGahee nailed to the bench for some reason. At least Evans had a big day.

So of course they cant lose big early today, they have to tease me all game, even leading and controlling at some points, but then botch the whole fourth quarter. This is three games we should have won, against teams that are at least 8-1 right now, and you know what the difference is, coaching. Stupid penalities, bad mistakes, this team just isn’t ready on Sunday. And Tom Donahoe is the guy who should be out on his ass. Three years ago he had to choose between 3 coaches, John Fox, Marvin Lewis and Gregg Williams. Fox had his team in the super bowl last year, Lewis turned around the Bengals, and Gregg Williams might be the most unsuccessful and least popular coach the Bills ever had. Dear God, just draw names out of a hat and you had a 2/3 chance of hiring the right guy. Mularky just isn’t getting these guys ready, and I don’t know if it’s growing pains or a problem I’m gonna have to deal with long term.

(Hey! You non-football fans, start reading again!)
In happier news, I saw open water tonight, and I give it the thumbs up, good use of editing and tension building, slight thumbs down for the camera work (it looked like it was filmed with a camcorder, no real reason for that), and thumbs up for a nice-but-not-plot-moving nude scene with the wife. Overall a fun, scary movie that proves women are nothing but an anchor in pressure situations. Oh yeah, and one of the Super Trooper guys (Mac) had a non-speaking part.

Debate Running Diary!

08:34:33 pm- We’re coming to you live from Oxford street in Rochester, with the official Run With Scissors.org debate running diary! Dinners been served, the beers are chilling, and I’m treating this like the Super Bowl, and Stanley Cup rolled together with much more dire consequences. Kerry’s been having a good week, but tonights the night.

08:37:07 pm - Myself and Dan E have already decided that Kerry should have hired Patriot’s coach Bill Bellicheck to run his campaign, Bush would have had no chance.

08:56:42 pm - Let’s go Kerry! Clap clap, clap clap clap! Let’s Kerry!

09:01:50 pm - Holy shit, I think the moderator just got out of a Botox session.

09:03:13 pm - John Kerry should come out like Ivan Drago in Rocky IV and slam Bush’s fists. “I must break you!”

09:08:06 pm - Woohoo! CSPAN is showing the split view. I’m watching Kerry take notes on how many words Bush uses with more than 6 letters. So in other words, he’s standing patiently, waiting.

09:10:07 pm - Wow, George got a word a day calendar! Big word, used in the right context. Looks like Kerry’s count just jumped to one.

09:11:20 pm - Just noticed that CSPAN is making the candidates look like the same height, so the bottom 20% of bushes screen is his desk.

09:14:45 pm - Kerry just held his own well talking about Afghanistan vs. Iraq.

09:21:46 pm - rarr! Bush says taxes bad! And how does he plan to pay for all of his programs!?

09:24:39 pm - Bush is talking about making the FBI stronger, but he hired Torkel, now that’s a flip flop.

09:26:15 pm - Bush is getting frazzled, tough question about when is a good time to bring home troops. He’s starting to stall and stutter. For another Rocky IV reference, “he’s cut the Russian, and the Russian is cut bad!” (And yes, I’ve referred to Kerry as both Rocky and Drago now, go with it).

09:29:23 pm - Good hit by Kerry quoting Bush Sr. on not occupying Iraq. We also have our first Kerry in Vietnam reference. Bush has also just butted in for his own response.

09:31:35 pm - Kerry just got the “last man to die for a mistake question”, seems to be doing ok so far. The FDR/Mexico line was good.

09:36:19 pm - The Bush um and uhh count is off the chart right now.

09:45:05 pm - Bush just started the name dropping of people he’s met on the trail.

09:45:21 pm - Apparently Bush just figured out that Iraq is hard work, good to see he figured it out 2 years later.

09:47:33 pm - Kerry just had a great line, “don’t confuse the war with the warriors”. Great way to shut down the “why don’t you support the troops” argument.

09:53:40 pm - Um, who’s saying that Muslims don’t want freedom, Bush keeps acting like he’s bringing up chimps to be leaders. That’s what Republicans do for him, not vice versa.

10:07:46 pm - I think Kerry’s done a great job of getting his point across. I don’t know how much longer Bush can run while constantly stuttering and pausing. Kerry just sounds better.

10:13:33 pm - Apparently you can’t lead America if you send Mexican misses, or whatever Bush is saying now.

Next day redux: Kerry really knocked last night out of the ballpark. I hope you enjoy the 24 hour delayed blog. I had some work, drinking and editiing to do.
