Know when to walk away, know when to run

So I finally hit that runner’s high yesterday. Went from getting shin splits after two miles to cruising through 5 and a half miles. That 10k thing is in 11 days or so, so I still need to add another mile onto that. For all the crappy running I’ve gone though, to finally get that good feeling around mile 3 is priceless. Did someone say Boilermaker?

Doughty came through Rochester Sunday night, with his new keyboard man accompanying him. Very solid show, busted out the “new” tunes (see banner’s blog for an album review). The two are still working on their teamwork, getting jams down and really exploring what to do. Some of the songs (St Louise) have lost their edege, but I think the whole moving to a band thing will be a positive thing. Covering the Gambler in his encore, fucking awesome.

I really like the story of Mike Doughty. 90’s rock star, gets fame, does too many drugs, and starts over completely. Starts from scratch, playing small shows for 4+ years, still being known as “that guy from Soul Coughing”. Develops a new sound, wins new fans and finally releases his first full solo album (Skitish doesn’t count, he did that that one just fooling around, althought it’s an incredible disc). I love reading his blog also, the guy just has talent.
