Back on the horse!

Well that was a rough 24 hours for the sabres, losing both captains. Before the playoffs this year, I figured that Drury would be overvalued because of his national exposure, and we should work to keep Briere. However, after their respective playoff performances, I changed course and figured we should keep drury and let Briere go (mainly because we have plenty of small skilled forwards and could use the $ saved to diversify with a big defensemen or power forward). Sadly, Drury wanted no part of staying in Buffalo and Briere got to free agency with a monster deal (prediction for his stats next year, 27-45-72, +5, and a lot of disapointed Flyers fans who realized they overspent for a 70 point a year player).

In retrospect, we should have made a bigger run at Briere, we really didn’t try to hard to resign him at all. Going forward, we have plenty of cap space to get that winger or d man (Souray from the Canadians would alleviate all my worries), so I’ll withhold my big worries until November.

and here is why

no one from outside of nyc cares about nyc. a nyc team being sucessful doesnt make the sport popular (baseballs popular anyway) nor does them being bad make the sport unpopular (jets and knicks).

I never liked his writing anyway, but if i see him, i’ll kick him right in the box.

I can’t imagine how pumped people back home are, i’m excited watching game 1 here by myself. Please let this be the year.

Because the truth hurts

Two weeks ago i heard the david stern rumor that back in 93 when hockey got cool, he let bettman leave his NBA executive position to go run the NHL, knowing the guy was a screw up and would help the NBA by messing it up. I think Sports Guy is right, Stern is an evil genius.

(As an aside, i think buffalo is officially at an uneasy truce with Bettman. He screwed us out of the cup, but then saved the franchise from leaving buffalo in the adelphia scam. It’s like we’re marcellus wallace, bettman’s bruce willis, and the Rigas family was Zed & the gimp).
